EcoBricks

What are EcoBricks?

_DSC8609.jpg

EcoBricks are plastic soda bottles packed tightly with non-biodegradable waste.  Making EcoBricks is form of low-grade recycling, which also helps us be more mindful of our plastic consumption.  EcoBricks can be used to build fences, furniture, and simple structures.

Did you know...

  • We are producing over 300 million tons of plastic every year, 50% of which is for single-use purposes. (UN Environment)

  • The plastic waste that ends up in the ocean every year is expected to double by 2025 and there would be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. (World Economic Forum

  • The Pasig River in Manila contributes the 2nd highest amount of plastic waste of any other river in the world. (GMA Network)

  • The Philippines is the world's top third contributor to the ocean's plastic waste. (Plastic Bank)

ECOGARDEN FENCES

Project Propel builds fences for our urban EcoGardens using EcoBricks.  These fences are long-lasting, flood-proof and improve community-awareness of the plastic crisis.

FLOATING ECOGARDENS

In riverside communities, Project Propel has created floating EcoGardens made from EcoBricks.  These are 1x3 meter plots that  float during the perpetual floods during rainy season.  They are anchored to solid structures to prevent them from floating away.

WASTE SEGREGATION BINS

We create waste segregation bins out of EcoBricks to help community members sort their trash.  Grouping waste by type allows for proper processing or storage.

LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT

A garden livelihood store, and mobile pushcart store have been made out of EcoBricks.  Community members have also been taught how to make sturdy EcoBrick furniture that they can sell as an eco-conscious product.
